A breakdown of what I wore & recommend

I took myself on a three week SOLO trip to Italy. I saw Milan, Lake Como, Verona, Venice, Florence, Cinque Terre, Rome and more. Before my trip I received several tips:
Don't wear too much athliesure, it's not how the Italians dress and you'll stand out as a tourist.
Make sure to wear comfortable shoes. Ditch the heels. There will be tons of walking and cobblestones.
Pack light. With all of the traveling, trains, walking and cobblestones... try to avoid bringing a large suitcase.
While this advice was all super helpful... it had me STRESSED.
I decided my best route would be a hardshell carryon bag and a large backpack as a personal item. I also chose to wear mostly dresses because they would be comfortable, not too hot, and I would not have to worry about mixing and matching tops and bottoms.

As for a purse, I chose to wear a travel safe crossbody each day. It was roomy enough to hold what I needed, but small enough to not be obnoxious.
And It had a lot of safety features like RFID blocking, slash proofing material, and lockable zippers.
I wore it every day and had zero issues with it. I strongly recommend this bag if you're traveling in an area where pickpocketing is prevalent.

SHOES
I only packed three pairs of shoes. Two pairs of sandals and a pair of sneakers that I wore on the plane/travel days. I am not exaggerating when I say shoes will make or break your trip to Europe. I was walking 13+ miles a day. In three weeks I walked over 220 miles! And I was very fortunate that my shoes not only held up for all of that walking, but they were super comfy. I didn't get a single blister.

LUGGAGE
I really wanted to avoid being the stereotypical American who struggles on cobblestones and steps with large bags. I also didn't want to check a bag on my flight to Italy and risk it getting lost. So I chose to only pack a backpack as my personal item and a hardshell bag as my carry-on. Then on my return flight, I checked the hardshell bag and used a compact duffle as my carry-on to fit whatever I bought during my trip.
