Everyday Makeup Routine

Ask and you shall receive! I've been asked to share which makeup products I use so I figured an everyday makeup routine would be my next post! This is what I do 90% of the time. I'll link the products I use and the variations of the products so you have options. But before I start...

How PHENOMENAL is this makeup organizer? I was so desperate for a way to organize my makeup in a way that I could still easily access everything and this brand came through. I actually bought three different towers to hold all of my makeup. Worth every penny. The best part is you can mix and match the organizers to create what you really want.

Here's links to some of organizing options (all from the brand Sorbus):

Ok.... it's almost time for the actual makeup.... But first... SKIN CARE!

I start each day with my sunscreen. Let's prevent wrinkles before they start. These are my two favorites.

There's no rhyme or reason which days I use either of these. I like them both equally.

Once my skin is protected... I hydrate it with moisturizer.

Ok... now the moment you've been waiting for. MAKEUP!

We'll start with my primers.

Once again, I like to switch up which primers I use... without much rhyme or reason.

My go-to's are the Milk Makeup Hydro Grip Primer

Put the primer on all over your face using your hands. I usually avoid my eyelids (that step comes a little later). Let dry for a minute or so.

Once the primer is on and set... I go in with my foundation. For the purposes of this post I'll share a range of shades but that's because which shade I uses depends on my tan or lack there of.

In order of least to most tan:

Apply with either a brush or a beauty blender (I prefer brush).

Next up I go in with my concealer.

I generally only use the tried and true Shape Tape Concealer from Tarte

My color ranges from Fair Light Neutral to Light-Medium depending on my tan.

And I generally have really good skin but on the off chance I have a blemish that I want to cover up, I use the NARS Soft Matte Complete Concealer.

I bought the Marron Glace which is fine but I wish I got the Madeleine instead.

Concealer Map

And here is how I use it. This next step is different based on your face structure but I found this is what works for me.

I use the NARS concealer to spot-cover any minor blemishes. Less is more.

Then I go in with my Shape Tape and swipe the locations seen here in red.

I used a wet beauty blender to blend it in.

And on my eyelids I make sure to cover my entire eyelid because the shape tape doubles as an eyeshadow primer.

Once I look like a raccoon... it's time to add some color.

I have several favorite contours... depending on my mood. They include:

And here is how I use it. Once again, this next step is different based on your face structure but I found this is what works for me.

Contour Map

I draw a line (stick), dot (liquid), or brush on (powder) over all of the areas you see in red. For the jaw line I do this on the under part. Not the outer section on my face.

Then if I'm using a stick or a liquid, I use a damp beauty blender and buff it out. You want to bounce not rub. If there are any harsh lines/dots after blending out with the sponge, I go back over it briefly with a brush.

If I'm contouring with powder, I just blend it with a brush. (I don't use power on lower lip).

When using a brush you want to brush towards the outside of your face. Not towards your nose. And on your nose you want to brush up and towards your eyebrows.

Soft Pinch Liquid Blush - Bliss

Once this is done I go in with my blush. For me, less is more when it comes to blush. That's why I love the Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Dewy Liquid Blush. I use the shade Bliss 90% of the time but I occasionally use the shade Encourage.

This product is SUPER pigmented so when I tell you I only use two extremely small dots... I mean it.

Here's how it works: just make one small dot on each cheek bone using the tip of the applicator. Then with your fingers gently smooth it up into a diagonal direction towards your hairline. Blend with your fingers and if you used too much (I told you less it more!) or think there are harsh lines, you can dab it over with a damp beauty blender and it'll be fine.

Now it's time to set the face. I use the Laura Mercier Loose Setting Powder in Translucent. I splurged and bought the jumbo size when it went on sale at Sephora. It lasts me forever.

All I do is put some of the powder in the lid of the container. Then with a damp beauty blender, I dab the powder and tap off any excess powder. Then I PRESS IN... do not sweep or wipe... PRESS IN the powder under my eyes and anywhere that I tend to get oily. So for me it's the lower part of my forehead.

I let it sit for a minute.

Then with a brush I gently brush off any excess on my face with a brush.

Now that the face is done. I start on my eyes.

For eyeshadow pallets... I typically love all of the Urban Decay NAKED pallets.

But lately my two go-to pallets are the Urban Decay NAKED HEAT and the Anastasia Beverly Hills Soft Glam.

I am not a huge fan of color. Just my personal preference. I find sticking with neutral tones gives me better results.

I typically use darker shades in my eye crease, neutral shades above the crease towards my eyebrow, and light pink/white shades towards my inner eye and on the lid below the crease.

I circled the shades I would typically use:

  • Red: darker shades in my crease

  • Purple: neutral shades above crease

  • Blue: light shades inner eye/lid

I can do a more in-depth tutorial if you'd like. Would you want that? Let me know!

Moving onto my eyeliner. I'm in love with a drugstore liquid liner and I don't care who knows! This stuff is so great for everyday wear.

Eyeliner and Eye Highlight

It's the Maybelline Line Stiletto Ultimate Precision Liquid Eyeliner. It's only like $10 and I promise you it's as good as the eyeliners that go for twice the price.

And sometimes when I want to give my eyes a little something *extra* I use Tarte Fake Awake Eye Highlight in my water line. It looks great in photos but I'll admit, it does not hold up all day long.

Then for my mascara I had an absolute favorite... which I still LOVE.... but it has been dethroned as my holy grail.... and I'll share both with you.

My Two Favorite Mascaras

My old favorite used to be the Smashbox Super Fan Fanned-Out Mascara Black False Lash Look. It's SO MUCH BETTER than the "Better Than Sex" mascara people rave about.

But my NEW favorite is the Thrive Causemetics Liquid Lash Extensions Mascara. It's so good for your eyelashes because it doesn't tug at them when you take it off at the end of the day and it seriously lasts all day long.

Now that the eyes are all done... I wrap it all up with the lips. I have two go-to lip combos.

Top Favorite Lip Combo

The first is my favorite. I usually get a lot of compliments on it.

Lip Gloss: Rare Beauty Stay Vulnerable Glossy Lip Balm in Nearly Neutral

Second Favorite Lip Combo

My second lip combo includes some fan-favorites.

Lip Liners: Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat in Pillow Talk

Lip Gloss: Sephora Collection Glossed Lip Gloss in Confident
